The Peak Design Capture Clip V3 is an aluminum clip that holds your camera on a backpack strap or belt and releases it with one button. We use it with our Sony A7 IV on wedding days and outdoor shoots, and it's one of the most useful accessories we own for the money. The camera stays locked to your body, your hands stay free, and it's back in your hands in about a second.
Quick verdict
Buy it if you carry one camera for long days and need your hands free between shots. Add the Pro Pad if you'll wear it on a belt.
- Best for: wedding, event and documentary shooters, and anyone hiking to a location with a camera.
- Skip it if: you mostly shoot with a heavy lens like a 70-200mm f/2.8, or your bag's straps are flimsy or wider than 2.5 inches.
What it is
The Capture clamps onto any strap or belt up to 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide. A small plate screws into the bottom of your camera, which then slides into the clip and locks. Press the button to release it. Twist the button 90 degrees and it locks completely, so the camera can't come out by accident.
The included plate is Arca-Swiss compatible and fits most Arca-type tripod heads. The V3 is the current version and is about 30% smaller and lighter than the V2. Peak Design lists it at $79.95 at the time of writing (October 2026).
The problem it solves
Every wedding day has moments when you need both hands: fixing a veil, moving a chair, carrying something for the couple, or getting across a crowded dance floor. A regular strap lets the camera swing into people and things. A shoulder bag means pulling the camera in and out and missing moments. The Capture keeps it fixed in place and ready.
Our Peak Design setup
- Capture Clip V3: holds the camera on a backpack strap or belt.
- Pro Pad: a semi-rigid pad that sits behind the clip for comfort and stability with heavier gear. On a belt, it lets the camera drop in from the top.
- Slide Lite: our main shoulder and sling strap for the A7 IV, quick to lengthen or shorten.
- Leash: a thinner, lighter strap we use as a backup tether or with lighter setups.
- Cuff: a wrist strap for when we want almost nothing on our body.
The straps all use Peak Design's Anchor Link connectors, so switching between them takes seconds. That's what makes the system flexible across a long day.
How we use it on a wedding day
During prep and the ceremony, the A7 IV hangs from the Slide Lite across our body, ready to lift and shoot. For cocktail hour and the reception, it moves to the Capture on our belt with the Pro Pad behind it. The camera sits on our hip without swinging, so we can move through crowds, shake hands and help with logistics. When the first dance starts, one click and it's in our hands.
For details like rings, flowers and decor, we sometimes switch to just the Cuff. It keeps the camera tethered to our wrist with almost no bulk, which suits close-up work on a table.
Outdoor and documentary work
On a backpack shoulder strap, the Capture holds the camera on your chest and out of the way. On a behind-the-scenes documentary at a construction site, that let us climb ladders and carry equipment with both hands while the camera stayed within reach. It's also how we carry the camera when hiking to engagement and elopement locations, so it's ready the moment we arrive.
What we like
- Fast access: in and out in about a second
- No swinging: the camera stays fixed to your body
- Arca-Swiss compatible plate that also works on most Arca-type tripod heads
- Full-lock position on the release button for extra security
- Machined aluminum that has held up to heavy use for us
- Small and light, with almost no added bulk
What to know
- Strap width: the V3 fits straps up to 2.5 inches. Thin, floppy backpack straps can flex under a heavier camera; a sturdy camera-bag strap or a stiff belt works best.
- Get the Pro Pad for belt carry. For hip carry we consider it essential.
- Heavy lenses: with a 70-200mm f/2.8 mounted, the camera hangs lens-down and the weight is noticeable. With a 24-70mm or a 35mm prime on the A7 IV, it's comfortable all day.
- Learning curve: the release takes a deliberate press, which keeps the camera from popping out. It takes about a day to build the muscle memory.

The Capture Clip V3 looks simple, but it solves the core problem of long shoot days: keeping the camera secure, accessible and out of your way when you need your hands. With the Pro Pad and a couple of Anchor Link straps, it becomes a carry system that adapts to each part of the day. If you're also rethinking how you carry the rest of your kit, see our guide to camera bags.
